NEW DELHI: Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi is scheduled to visit Thailand from April 3 to 4, 2025, to participate in the 6th BIMSTEC Summit and engage in bilateral discussions with Thai Prime Minister Paetongtarn Shinawatra.
This visit, at the invitation of the Thai government, aims to enhance India-Thailand relations and reinforce India's commitment to regional cooperation.
Jaideep Mazumdar, Secretary (East) in the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA), emphasized the historical and cultural ties between India and Thailand, stating that Thailand is a "valuable partner" in India's 'Act East' policy and vision for the Indo-Pacific.
During the visit, Prime Minister Modi and Prime Minister Shinawatra are expected to elevate bilateral relations to a strategic partnership. They will discuss various sectors, including trade, investment, security, connectivity, science, technology, innovation, and cultural cooperation, with a focus on enhancing people-to-people connections and tourism.
The BIMSTEC Summit, hosted by Thailand as the current chair, will focus on regional cooperation under the theme "BIMSTEC – Prosperous, Resilient, and Open." Leaders from member nations will deliberate on enhancing institutional frameworks, capacity building, security cooperation, trade and investment facilitation, as well as maritime and digital connectivity.
Following his visit to Thailand, Prime Minister Modi will travel to Sri Lanka from April 4 to 6 to review bilateral cooperation and inaugurate development projects implemented with Indian financial assistance.
