Thailand valuable partner in India's Act East policy

NEW DELHI: Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi is scheduled to visit Thailand from April 3 to 4, 2025, to participate in the 6th BIMSTEC Summit and engage in bilateral discussions with Thai Prime Minister Paetongtarn Shinawatra.

This visit, at the invitation of the Thai government, aims to enhance India-Thailand relations and reinforce India's commitment to regional cooperation. ​

Jaideep Mazumdar, Secretary (East) in the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA), emphasized the historical and cultural ties between India and Thailand, stating that Thailand is a "valuable partner" in India's 'Act East' policy and vision for the Indo-Pacific. ​

During the visit, Prime Minister Modi and Prime Minister Shinawatra are expected to elevate bilateral relations to a strategic partnership. They will discuss various sectors, including trade, investment, security, connectivity, science, technology, innovation, and cultural cooperation, with a focus on enhancing people-to-people connections and tourism.

The BIMSTEC Summit, hosted by Thailand as the current chair, will focus on regional cooperation under the theme "BIMSTEC – Prosperous, Resilient, and Open." Leaders from member nations will deliberate on enhancing institutional frameworks, capacity building, security cooperation, trade and investment facilitation, as well as maritime and digital connectivity. ​

Following his visit to Thailand, Prime Minister Modi will travel to Sri Lanka from April 4 to 6 to review bilateral cooperation and inaugurate development projects implemented with Indian financial assistance. ​
